A destination wedding is always an adventure, and ours was no exception. After getting engaged in Bora Bora, we knew there was no better place to say “I do.” So, we planned to return a year later for a simple, intimate wedding—just the two of us, the ocean breeze, and the magic of the island.

The Excitement of Planning
The 12 months leading up to our wedding were filled with anticipation. I stayed in regular contact with our wedding planner, finalizing every little detail from afar. Everything felt exciting and seamless—until we arrived in Bora Bora on a Friday, only to find out that our planner had taken a couple of days off and wouldn’t be available until Sunday.
Not exactly the stress-free start I had envisioned! But hey, island life, right?
Finalizing the Details (At the Last Minute)
By Sunday, we finally met with our contact and locked in the details for our big day. There were a few hiccups, but we took them in stride. After all, we were in paradise, and the most important thing was that we were getting married!
Wedding Day: The Unexpected Twists
Monday morning arrived, and it was everything we had dreamed of—calm, beautiful, and full of love. We enjoyed a relaxed breakfast, even had time for a swim, and everything seemed to be on track. My hair and makeup artist arrived right on time, working her magic to get me wedding-ready.
Then came the first hiccup.
The transport that was supposed to take me to the chapel? Nowhere to be found. I waited, waited… and waited some more. Then, finally, a call—there was a “slight problem.”
Oh, but that wasn’t all.
Apparently, our musician didn’t speak English, and they were scrambling to find someone who could sing in our language. At that point, I just laughed and said, “Whatever, let’s just do it.”
And so we did.

The Wedding, Minus the Flowers
The ceremony was beautiful, intimate, and everything we had hoped for—despite the little surprises along the way. It wasn’t until the next day that I even realized I didn’t have flowers! But honestly? It didn’t matter. The day was perfect in its own imperfect way.
My Advice for Destination Brides
Breathe. Enjoy. Laugh at the little things. Weddings, no matter how well planned, will always have unexpected moments. The key is to surround yourself with good people, embrace the journey, and remember that at the end of the day, it’s all about love.

Would I do it all over again? In a heartbeat.
